Adrian-
The more common abbreviation for Van Meter's Handbook of Roman Imperial
Coins is simply "Van Meter". RIC is generally noted by "RIC" and usually one
of the 10 volume numbers, followed by the mint city. In some cases, the
volume number is left off when it is evident which RIC would be referred to.
In the case of the family of Constantine, there could be 3 diff. volumes
referenced. Sometimes an RIC page number is also referenced in the
attribution.
1st coin - SOLI INVICTO COMITI, F/T//BTR
I see it as RIC VII Trier #161 [if draped and cuirassed] or RIC VII Trier
#162 [if cuirassed only] . Both coins are indicated with an R4 rarity but
then again many of these types are shown as "rare" when they may just have
been of limited collectibility to the institutions referenced. These coins
are indicated to have been minted during the period 317-318 AD. VM #63v,
this variety noted because of the variation in the listed obverse legend.
2nd coin - VICTORIA DD AVGGQ NN, Two Victories standing facing one another,
each holding wreath and palm, upright palm//A[B?]SIS
I believe I can make this out as Constans - RIC VIII Siscia #195. This coin
has a C2 or common rarity rating. The upright palm between the figures is a
differentiating mintmark indication for this period, circa 347-348 AD. Other
mintmark types for this group included a star and various letters. VM #57
Hope this helps,
Tom Wood
