Two soldiers on lower levels l. and r. In large niche on l. a figure of Mars with spear and shield. Wreath in entryway. 29,29 g. RIC 138. BMC 129. C. 306. Dark brown patina. Some smoothing. Good very fine.
The Arch of Nero was erected to commemorate his campaigns against the Parthians, which did result in a lasting peace for 50 years. After Nero’s downfall the arch was dismantled. Ex Tinchant
